Privacy

This page explains what happens to the text you paste into CompareText and what other data the site collects. Last updated September 2026.

The text you compare

When you click Compare Text, both texts are sent to our server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, compared, and the result is sent back in the response. Unless you share the comparison, the texts are not written to a database and are not kept after the response has been sent.

Shared comparisons

When you click Share, we save both texts together with the expiry you chose (1 hour, 1 day, 1 month, or never), the IP address the request came from, and a count of how many times the link has been opened. The link contains a random 8-character code, and anyone who has the link can open the comparison until it expires. "Never expires" means the comparison is kept indefinitely. Expired comparisons are deleted automatically. To have a shared comparison removed early, send us the link through the contact form.

Contact form

Messages sent through the contact form, including the optional name and email address, are emailed to us and used only to read and reply to your message. The contact page uses Google reCAPTCHA to block spam, which means Google receives information about your browser and your interaction with that page; Google's privacy policy applies to that processing.

Analytics, error reporting, and hosting

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate (pages viewed, browser and device type, approximate location). It may set cookies in your browser. If something goes wrong, an error report is sent to Sentry, our error-monitoring service, so we can fix the problem; error reports can include details of the request that failed. The site is served through Cloudflare, which acts as a proxy and content delivery network and keeps standard connection logs.
